Heat and Passion

I’ve been watching passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) blooming over on Logansport Street in the worst heat of our summer. It has repeatedly caught my eye with its vivid cool blue bloom as it trails across a wrought iron fence. Having bid adieu to one of the hottest and driest Augusts East Texans have experienced in a long time, it is a relief to see some plants not only surviving but thriving with beautiful color.

It’s easy to see why the bloom of the passionflower vine created a stir in the hearts of Spanish explorers in the 1500’s.
